Barry B. Powell is the Halls-Bascom Professor of Classics Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Oxford University Press published his translation of the Iliad in 2013 and his translation of the Odyssey in 2014.

A Good Selection of the Homeric Classics in an Excellent Translation with New Explanatory Material.

This is a nice selection of "books" (chapters) of Homer's Iliad and Odyssey. The translation by Powell is excellent - knowledgable and poetic. The explanatory material benefits from Powell's own research on the evolution of written Greek (in relation to Homer), as well as recent research by others that has located the original site of Ithaca.

Judge this book by it's cover!

This review applies specifically to the April 2010, Sterling Edition, illustrated by Robert Ingpen:
I'm beginning to feel quite frustrated with the limited publishing information given to books on Amazon. For example, most books where you may click to "look inside" will default to the most common paperback. For books like Tom Sawyer, that is fine if you need the book for high school English class, where any copy cheap enough to write notes in the margins will do. I wanted a copy of Tom Sawyer to keep and love. I saw this publication on Amazon, but it had so little info and the one review given was a single sentence about the general value of Twain's story. The truth is, one doesn't buy this particular printing unless one is already convinced of it's literary excellency! So I am about to do Amazon a huge favor by telling you what it didn't tell me. For about $15, the asking price at the time of this review, you can invest in a real treat for your self or someone you love and wish to inspire.
This printing was meant to mark the one hundredth anniversary of Twain's death (2010). The story is unabridged, provided in full original text. It is positively rich with watercolor illustrations by Robert Ingpen. I just skimmed through the book looking for one that I especially liked, but I couldn't pick just one. In design, they are exactly as I would have dreamed them to be. Barefoot Tom, balancing a piece of straw on his nose, Huck Finn with a dead cat, Tom and puppy in church, Injun Joe- terrifying....each one pulls me in to read the text. The fabulous, wrapping cover art is also printed at the end of the book, so won't be lost if the dust jacket is damaged. The sewn binding is well constructed and the book lays nearly flat when open, so you may enjoy all of the pictures and layout without damaging the book. The inclusion of a pale blue place marking ribbon is a lovely touch. There is a thoughtful biography of Mark Twain proceeding the story. Also, provided are the author's and illustrators notes.
I have a boy, six going on seven. He is a reader and is happy to consume Magic Tree House and Box Car Children books at alarming speed under the covers at night when he is supposed to be asleep. I'll admit I was missing our former habit of reading together. So we read classics aloud together as a family. For less money than a video game this book will provide hours of family entertainment. I hope my son will be inspired to read it again and again. It will have a place in our library and be a reference for years to come. It is heirloom quality. It would make a very special gift to a favorite boy of any age. In fact, I am considering getting another copy for my father, who loves Twain.
Incidentally, not being able to ascertain the quality of this book through the Amazon web site, I went to a little local bookstore where I could put my hands on it first. I ended up buying it there, paying full price- about $5 more than Amazon was asking. They wrapped the book for free in nice heavy paper and since there was no shipping- I think I came out better for it. Before my son had opened this package, he knew it was a book to be awed by. Awesome it is- mostly for Mark Twains' masterful kntting of prose, but also for the cover and publishing.

This edition is not abridged!

I just want to point out that this hardcover Everyman's Library edition is not abridged. Most of the reviews posted here apply to the Signet mass market edition, which apparently is abridged. The Everyman's edition contains both novels in full.

Great resource for new and evolving managers

Unlike most leadership books, new leaders and their organizations should trust the guidance Dr. Gentry offers in this book. It is based on actual science. It is based on Dr. Gentry's actual experience as a new leader. It is based on his actual experience training hundreds of new leaders. Very few authors of leadership books have this type of background and expertise. This makes Dr. Gentry someone worth listening to.

A good guide but not without flaws

The guide is decent and helps you get through the game The World Ends With You. Includes an easy to follow walk-through as well as appendices to useful information about Threads, Noise database, Pin guide. Gives you information about the extra missions after you clear the game. I found the Pin guide most useful.

This guide is not with out a few flaws such as incorrect information about pin evolutions and stating repeatedly that certain pins come from "big" noise when it should have said "pig". Not a big deal though the guide in it's entirety is helpful and the flaws are easily spotted and don't affect your ability to play the game well.

I should also mention that the walk-through is only partially spoiler free. There are a few times when reading the walk-through will spoil a few story elements but it does keep some of the more important spoilers a secret.

As Great a Guide as the Game

Anyone who has played through The World Ends With You knows where that quotation's from.
Anyway.

This guide is essential to the game for anyone who wants to get just about everything--like me. I found myself hardly playing the game without the book flopped open. It gives extensive details on all the pins, swag, and every other secret there is (especially after the initial ending).

The walkthrough is very well written and easy to follow, and it includes notes breached into passages that lets the player know when a good sidequest is readily available. Sometimes, though, the text can get a little exhaustive and give away too much information--information the player can just get from following the story. But that's just me; I like my guides to be simple and to the point, without giving away too many spoilers.

The only other gripe I have (I am nit-picky) is that the guide really doesn't explain the special moves for each character too well. I found myself playing through most of Shiki's story before I realized specials were racking up.
Nevertheless, the battle system is slightly difficult to explain, anyway; one must simply play through it to fully understand it.

Along with the guide, The World Ends With You has entered my list of favorite games, and, I believe, is one of the best (if not the) game for the DS.

If you're buying the game, buy this guide.

Nicely organized guide

I love having lists of items for RPGs and this guide provides plenty. Details for clothing and buttons are very well laid out. The guide also provides a walkthrough for hte game but I have not used that enough to give a good opinion. If you like having details for items in RPGs then this is a great accessory to a terrific game.

Producer/mixer/artist, Ronan Chris Murphy began his musical career in his teens singing in a hardcore punk band in Washington D.C. After several years of performing and touring with various bands in a scene that later became know as grunge, sharing the stage with bands such as Dinosaur Jr., All, The Flaming lips, Gwar and the Rollins Band, he began to focus on record production and mixing, and soon became the man behind the boards for some of the worlds greatest and most prestigious musicians across the spectrum of music genres. Not bad as far as it goes

Not bad as far as it goes, but it is very short and just scratches the surface of music production. There's very little information on mic placement, the types of mics, emulation, recording direct into the board, various recording software programs, and nothing on remix, EQ, compression, normalization, mastering or converting from uncompressed to compressed audio files. I think the title is misleading given how incomplete this book is.

If you record music, this is a fantastic quick read for $0.99. Helped me re-enforce and focus on important basic principals. Also got a few new tricks to try out. It's a dollar! Buy it!

Inspiring...

I own a recording studio in Alaska. It's easy to get caught up in "producing" an album and forget to let it breathe. This was a good reminder to be creative first! I especially related to the section on the Zoom H4n. I recently used one for a week long run and gun shoot with National Geographic, and the tracks came out awesome!
