Among his other credits, Bob is a past president and lifetime fellow of the Acupuncture Association of Colorado, a fellow and director of the National Academy of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine as well as a past editor of that association's quarterly journal, a founder of the Council of Oriental Medical Publishers, and the founder of Blue Poppy Enterprises. Bob is also the co-author and co-director of an NIH-funded research project working with AIDS-related peripheral neuropathy.

Easy to follow instructions

The author divides his wines into 11 categories, among them wines for strengthening the sinews and bones, wines for fortifying the spleen and harmonizing the stomach, gynecological wines, wines for dispelling wind, etc. For each of these categories he gives dozens of recipes with exact amounts of herbs and alcohol to be used. For each recipe, he also specifies the diseases or ailments the wine can cure, how the wine is to be prepared, when and how often the medicine is to be administered, and whether there are contraindications.

Almost all ingredients have to be purchased in an Asian store, or through a variety of specialty internet stores whose addresses the author provides. To help the reader find the correct ingredients, each herb is listed by its Chinese and its scientific (Latin) name.

The book is very well organized, easy to understand, thanks to the introduction that explains Chinese herbal medicine, and the recipe instructions are easy to follow. No special equipment is required

Should we use the alcohol tincture form of Chinese herbs? Bob Flaws, a leading educator in traditional Chinese herbalism has reviewed the use of alcohol preparations of Chinese herbs from classic texts as well as modern medical usage. Recipes and dosages given in detail. Readers will need a basic knowledge of the terminology and concepts of Chinese medicine. To answer the question at the top, alcoholic preparations of Chinese herbs are usually taken in much greater volume than tinctures are in Western herbalism, and only when the medicinal effects of the alcohol -- warming and stimulating -- are also sought.

Perdomo, a regular performer at Manhattan's Nuyorican Poets Cafe, is a scruffy organizer of his experience, throwing his poetics together tenement style. In the irresistible, high-spirited "Nigger-Reecan Blues," he insists, "Yo soy Boricua! Yo soy Africano! I ain't/ lyin'. Pero mi pelo is kinky y curly y mi skin no es negro pero it can pass . . ." Drawing on rap, jazz, Langston Hughes and the rhythms of the streets, this collection bristles with congas, timbales, police sirens and wino oracles, "singing a celebration of the island/ that some of us will never see." In poems that are scalding, toxic and dizzying, Perdomo reminds us that there is something wrong when feeling joy suggests mangled sanity: "I didn't know whether to laugh or cry when I noticed I went to more funerals than parties this summer."

Perdomo (Young Tongues, First Civilizations, 1992) does not write a focused, collected poetry with practiced diction and tidy lines. His raucous craft owes more to rap than Whitman, forging works that sing, dance, and howl at the moon: "the 'hood/ the block/ the Ave./ the corner/ my boys." These are songs of the Harlem barrio, where (according to Langston Hughes) "a nickel costs a dime." Perdomo finds poetry in broken lines and blocked prose, in pieces of dialog and prayer. "Where I'm from, Puerto Rico stays on our minds when the fresh breeze of cafe con leche y pan con mantequilla comes through our half open windows." These sentiments give way to rage at times: "Every time I go downtown la madam blankita de Madison Avenue sees that I' standing next to her and she holds her purse a little tighter." As rough and sharp as the images often are, there is grace and tenderness as well. A good introduction to what's happening on the cutting edge. His poems have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, BOMB, Mandorla, and African Voices. He is a Pushcart Prize nominee, a former recipient of the Woolrich Fellowship in Creative Writing at Columbia University, and two-time New York Foundation for the Arts Poetry Fellow. A treasure

Read it again and again -- always out loud -- and the extraordinary rhythms of Willie Perdomo's powerful poems will reach inside and grip your imagination. I never tire of picking this small volume up and enter once more New York City and the neighborhood of el barrio. The sounds of the streets, the cadence of young men and women as they boast and speak their affections, the sights of a Manhattan many visitors never see, all are integral to these poems. You'll be confronted with racism and poverty and violence. But, you'll equally face love and loyalty, family and hope. One of my students at the college in which I teach originally introduced Perdomo to me and I've been eager to share him with others ever since.

there's no way to be lukewarm about this book. It's a raw and beautiful lyric, and always so specific. Whenever I open "Where A Nickel Costs a Dime" , Willie is in the room. And he owns the room. until the moment I've finished the book again, and set it away.

GREAT BOOK

How could Amazon.com post such a scornful, personal review of a literary work? I live in the neighborhood where Willie Perdomo was raised and he is definitely not a disgrace to his people and his neighborhood. If I had a nickel for every time I heard a young and old Puerto Rican or African-American man or woman say they read his book and were affected, I would be rich. And now he is making contributions to children's literature with a new picture book called VISITING LANGSTON. People from all communities respect Willie and what he stands for. I buy this book regularly for people who live in our inner cities and need a witness. Please, the next time someone tries to post any kind of vicious attack on an author and his work, please refer to them to a therapist. Next thing you know he'll have a rabbit boiling in his kitchen. This is a wonderful tool for daily Tantra Practice! Simple and easy to follow directions placed into a course type of workbook. Instructional pictures are clean and not too sexually graphic which makes this the perfect Tantra Class Workbook! I will highly recommend it to students!

Terrific Book

This is not the latest edition, but it was about 1/10th the price, and I doubt that basic geology has changed much in the last several years. The book itself is very well written, organized and illustrated. I give it 4 stars because 5 requires that "I love it," which feels excessive.

Mack Wilberg is the Music Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He was appointed Music Director in March 2008, having served as Associate Music Director since May 1999. He is a former professor of music at Brigham Young University, where he received his bachelors degree; his masters and doctoral degrees are from the University of Southern California. In addition to his conducting responsibilities he is active as apianist, choral clinician, composer, arranger, and guest conductor throughout the United States and abroad. In addition to the many compositions he has written for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, his works have been performed by artists such as Renee Fleming, Frederica von Stade, Bryn Terfel, The Kings Singers, and narrators Walter Cronkite and Claire Bloom. Wilbergs arrangements and compositions are performed and recorded all over the world. With their grandeur, energy, and craftsmanship, they inspire performers and audiences everywhere.

Very good reference for applied fluvial geomorphology

As a practicing fluvial geomorphologist with 25 years of experience in river restoration and management, this is one is in the top dozen I reach for when I have fundamental questions or need a reference for a report. Should be on your bookshelf if you do this work.

A hard read, but lots of good info

This book is basically a lit review of everything fluvial geomorphology. It is a great resource, but a bit difficult to read. One frustrating thing is that because it is so extensive in what it covers, it never give you a definitave answer. Instead it will give you every argument from every side. That's good if that's what you're after.

If you have to take a class

This class made my brain hurt something fierce. For gosh sakes, use online supplements! There are quite a few powerpoints out there that can help explain things too. Knighton's book seemed well organized, really good index, and pretty clear (for fluvial geomorphology). No complaints, other than the unavoidable content.

Very Interesting, Inspiring, and Readable Book

This book, and its subject, were of particular interest to me as my own father worked for Mr. LeTourneau in the late 1950s and early '60s. My dad had so many wonderful things to say about what a pleasure it was to work for Mr. LeTourneau, I had to read this book for myself to find out what it was that made him so well-liked by his employees, which is quite a feat in our day and time.
I was impressed with Mr. LeTourneau's honesty and humility about his own shortcomings, about the mistakes he made (and how he learned from them what NOT to do the next time), his ingenuity, his imagination and vision, and his willingness to live on very little in order to accomplish his goals. I was even more impressed with the way he kept his priorities in order, attended church regularly and took part in its leadership, included his wife as a valued partner in his life, and also his children as they grew older.
I would recommend this book to anyone; even my reluctant 13-year-old reader (a son) thoroughly enjoyed this book. There were times that I got bogged down in some of Mr. LeTourneau's descriptions of the machines he invented, but my son enjoyed it all. One of the things that really struck me about Mr. LeTourneau's life was that he was born just before the turn of the twentieth century, yet he was always on the cutting edge of technology -- a real innovator. Kudos to his memory!

There is SO much Godly wisdom besides the history and stories in there that you HAVE to get it. I read it in two days, not because it's an easy read, it is, but because of content is enlightening for me as a business person starting "Fish Tank Startups" for Christians wanting to start a business of their own. LOVED the part about how to change third world countries in his four points. PERFECT! Get it, you won't regret it.

Security is defined as ‘the creation and enforcement of proprietary rights to secure the payment of a monetary liability’ – somewhat in the nature of a secured loan, in other words. The book is therefore primarily concerned with property and insolvency law.

Note, as author Richard Calnan explains, that the new edition of this highly regarded title, ‘has, been prompted by the recent changes to the system for the registration of charges created by companies and LLPs.’

‘The new law,’ he adds ‘is more logical and simpler than the old law.’ As a result, the practice of the registering charges has changed, which is why Chapter 6, which deals with all aspects of the registration process, has been substantially re-written. Further changes have been covered in other chapters, including Chapter 7 which focuses on priorities.

For busy practitioners, the book is impressively easy to use. It is divided over fourteen chapters into seven sections from A to G, which together, cover every conceivable aspect of ‘taking security.’

Part A for example, enumerates and explains the various types of security (for those who may be wondering). And international lawyers, particularly in today’s global economy, will be especially interested in Part G which covers both cross-border security and cross-border insolvency matters.

Get this if you want to understand basic immunology

This book is a must have for someone struggling with immunology (be honest, that means everyone, because at some point everyone will struggle with it). It will help build the fundamental understanding any future doctor, nurse, or other healthcare provider should have. As a nursing student I was so happy with this book and the key concepts it helped me to understand. The section on allergies and autoimmunity I found to be done very well, especially since those are subjects that few teachers I have met would discuss.

I love these series. It makes a mundane topic an interesting read. It's all basic essentials and that's how one needs to look at it. Before you make the diagnoses you have to know the normal then one can analyze the abnormal.

This is an excellent book for medical students and whoever is interested in getting an outline/overview of what immunology is about. You may not get the most out of this book if you just want to use it for boards. But you will find it very useful if you use it as a review/summary book for immunology or if you want to know the basics of immunology. In this regard, therefore, it is a short and concise book and great for its value.
