About the Author
Richard L. Weissman is a trader, trading system developer, and educator on trading and risk management. As senior associate with the Energy Management Institute, he holds seminars and webinars for professionals on trading and risk management. Weissman is a former member and trader at the New York Futures Exchange. He has written articles on trading and technical analysis for a variety of industry publications and provides independent consulting services to traders and risk managers on technical analysis, derivatives, and trading system development. preaching positive expectancy

I liked the message of this book, casinos win because they have a positive expectancy model in their table games and they control risk by establishing table limits. Traders can do the same. Its a great analogy but its a little too common sense to really warrant the price tag...as is the case with most trading texts.

I read the first couple of chapters and was quite optimistic, but then it ended with a wimper covering the usual topics of trading discipline, risk methodologies, system basics, the cyclical nature of volatility(some think this subject was revolutionary, not me). For someone that has never seen any of these topics, it could be beneficial, but I wouldn't call it a seminal work on any of these points.

Amazon doesn't have the table of contents listed, but Wiley's site does. Check it out to get a better feel of some of the topics covered. But note the page length of each topic and understand there are many charts. Point being their isn't a lot of depth IMO.

This is not a bad book, in fact it is well written and some may love its message applied to their own trading methods and mindset. For me it was a little disappointing and isn't a book I would place on my shelf and reference frequently for application or entertainment.

Be the Gambler or be the Casino, your choice

In gambling there are really only two sides, the gambler and the casino. The gambler has the long term odds stacked against them. The casino has the odds on their side in the long term. The more the gambler gambles the more the odds shift to the casinos favor and they eventually will take all the gamblers money.

This book is about the casino paradigm as it relates to trading. The majority of Rich Traders operate like casinos. They trade with back tested proven trading systems that put the odds on their side. They risk small amounts of equity per trade like 1% to 2% of their accounts, so one trade alone really doesn't matter. While New Traders act more like gamblers with no real advantage and just plunging large bets on stocks so haphazardly that they just have a 50-50 shot like a roulette wheel on red or black. Many times the New Trader like the gambler has even worst odds by buying into the market in a downtrend and shorting into a rally just believing that they can pick the bottom or top.

This book is about becoming the casino through the removal of emotions from any one trading outcome, risk management, and a positive expectancy model, which are the basis to any trader winning in the long term.

We should control our risk just like casinos set table limits to not expose themselves to the risk of ruin.

We must have the discipline to stick unwaveringly to positive expectancy models and risk management, casinos do not get upset and change their rules trying to win back money from a gambler and neither should we.

Luck is what gamblers hope for. Casino operators consistently play the probabilities and manage risk.

Trade the market not the money. Trading must be based on a trading system of entries and exits, not how much we want to make or how much we have lost in the past.

Do not anticipate a signal take it only when it is hit, discipline always.

Stick with your historically proven trading system, casinos do not close down if gamblers get on a winning streak.

Truly a great book with a great analogy, the principles of winning in the markets are spot on and are easy to understand when linked to what many readers should be familiar with:casinos and how they take our money. If we can't beat them, let's be one our self.

Excellent Trading Book

This book has everything needed to succeed as a professional trader - profitable trading methods (I particularly liked the chapters on timeframe divergence techniques and the cyclical nature of volatility), comprehensive risk management tools like the risk management pyramid, and the most comprehensive examination of tools to instill trading discipline I've ever read (this section absolutely blew me away ---- the author presents you with a detailed outline for a journal that really forced me to analyze my trading decisions and, more importantly to eradicate irrational ways of behaving in the markets).

Despite being a professional with over twenty-five years experience this book allowed me to think about markets in new ways and has enhanced overall performance (especially the chapter on minimizing trader regret).

Stated simply... buy it.

About the Author
Rick Daniels, R.N., Col. (ret.), Ph.D., administers clinical practicum courses in acute and critical care nursing. Currently an associate professor at Oregon Health and Science University, School of Nursing, Daniels has taught nursing in associate, baccalaureate, and graduate schools, as well as R.N. degree completion programs. He has also taught many adult health and illness seminars and has presented at numerous national organizations, including forums for nurse educators. Throughout his accomplished career as an educator, Daniels has kept his clinical practice current as a Colonel in the United States Army, Army Reserves, and National Guard, retiring in August 2012 after 28 years of service. An active researcher, Daniels has received four successive fundings with the Department of the Army to implement health promotion programs with National Guardsmen. The author of multiple textbooks, he also publishes in nursing journals and holds membership in numerous professional nursing organizations, including Sigma Theta Tau and the American Nurses Association. Daniels obtained his bachelor of science degree in nursing from the University of Oregon Nursing School, his master of science degree in nursing from the University of San Diego, and his doctor of philosophy degree in nursing from the University of Texas in Austin.

One of L'Amour's best

Fallon is the best Louis L'Amour book I have read. It contains several shootouts, brawls, and poker games in addition to other exciting plot elements. Fallon also introduces some of L'Amour's best characters and zings the reader with an unexpected twist in the climax. It is truly a must-read for anyone who enjoys westerns!

Fallon is a Remarkable Book!

With Fallon Louis L'Amour comes up with a very different main character. Fallon isn't a gunfighter or cattleman; he's a gambler and a complicated individual. I've read a great many excellent books by Louis L'Amour, and have enjoyed all of them but to be honest, they are uneven. By this I mean that some of them are much better than others.

Fallon is one that I flat out loved; one that I remember well, and of all of L'Amour's always fun to read Westerns, I think Fallon is one of the best.

I can't believe this is the first western I have read - its great!

I can't believe this was the first western I ever read, I'll defintely search out more. This is good fun right from the first paragraphs "Macon Fallon was a stranger to Seven Pines, and fortunately he was a stranger with a fast horse" - from the opening lines I was carried along.

The story follows Macon Fallon, as you know from the above, a stranger to Seven Pines who manages to upset some gamblers and escapes from the lynching - but gets himself in a bad way travelling in the dry areas without water. Just in time he sees a small wagon train and hatches a plan. There is a deserted town up behind the trail, he realises if he can get the wagoners to set up the town again he can make a pile and start a new life out west. It is kind of a scam, but he feels some guilt, they are decent people and he doesn't swindle decent people.

The hero is good fun, at once self-deprecating good humour, and next strong and able hero to the wagoners and against the local unsavoury and highly violent gang. One of the Wagoners, Ginia, an attractive young woman, smart and brave.

the story bounded along, its a short and punchy novel, the only thing I found I disliked was the long discussion of poker hands. The hero and the writing reminded me strongly of Lee Child and I wondered if Child was a L'amour fan - maybe I need to read more of this sort of stuff.

Loved it, will read more of Louis L'amour's books.

Intense story of revenge and second chances at love

My first book by this author was prior book THE PIRATE NEXT DOOR (which I very much enjoyed) where we first met brooding pirate hunter James Ardmore. James is a driven pirate hunter who has also angered the British Royal Navy by attacking their ships and setting free pressed American sailors. He is considered an outlaw in England and a hero in his native America (Charleston, SC to be specific) but he will not rest until he has killed pirate Black Jack Mallory, the man who killed James' brother and his family. While extricating an American spy from an English house party the previous year, he stumbled onto Lady Diana Worthing whose father knows Black Jack. James abducts her thinking she may know something of value about where Jack is but during their stormy two-day encounter he determines that 1.) She knows nothing about Black Jack, 2.) She's a spitfire who is not easily cowed and 3.) He's extremely attracted to her and senses the feeling is mutual (they share one steamy kiss!). After asking her to come away with him (she refuses) he lets her return to her husband and her life.
Unfortunately, Diana's life is miserable, trapped in a marriage to a man who detests her, thinks she cheats on him and who is ashamed of his own daughter who is deaf. She is also carrying guilt for her daughter Isabeau's hearing loss as a result of a childhood illness. If not for Isabeau, Diana may well have run away with James, but she could not leave her daughter behind to the mercy of an indifferent father. Now, a year later, she is a widow and living with her father on a private island off the English coast when she and Isabeau discover James Ardmore washed up on the beach!
James and Diana quickly discover that they are no less attracted to one another than they were last year, but neither is particularly happy about it. James is determined to have his revenge on Black Jack - even if it means Diana and her father are caught in the cross-fire - and Diana is just as determined to keep her father's secrets and her daughter safe. Their relationship is stormy and tumultuous with sparks both verbal and sexual igniting regularly. Diana is a woman who loved once when she was young and stupid who is now smarter and a little embittered at what life as thrown her way. James is emotionally dead inside since the death of his brother and his estrangement from his sister, Honoria. The only thing keeping him going is revenge. But when these two begin to fall for one another, it changes everything. Will James decide that love is sweeter than revenge? Will Diana find that the right man can restore her faith in love? I must say that this is one intense couple! No lighthearted romance for these two. But I enjoyed James' character very much - intense, introspective, self-contained but with a sardonic sense of humour - though he was a touch too proud and uncommunicative sometimes. Though I admired Diana's backbone and dedication to Isabeau, at times I found her a touch waspish, though given her experiences with her husband, I suppose allowances should be made.
If you read THE PIRATE NEXT DOOR, do not expect the same tone here. Whereas Grayson (from TPND) was easy-going and witty and the tone of that story relatively light, I found this story more serious and brooding (not exactly "yo ho ho" as another review states), reflecting both James and Diana's characters (though it's not without some humour). I enjoyed both stories and look forward to Honoria's coming in early 2005.

yo ho ho and a bottle of fun!

Jennifer Ashley is an amazing writer. This is her third romance, but she is also doing rather well writing Regency Era Detective Mysteries under the penname of Ashley Gardner. Her tales are always charming, very strong historically, and this her third pirate tale, demonstrates her love for yo yo ho and a bottle of rum. She does it with panache! So check out all three pirate tales, but don't hesitate to buy her Regency Mysteries as well. She is a very talented writer no matter which genre.
When James Ardmore washes up, barely alive, on a beach after the ship he was on goes down, he never expected HER to be staring at him, when he opened his eyes. HER - being Lady Diana. After all, he had kidnapped her and held her as a pawn in his plans for vengeance once before, so he does not expect a welcome, despite that passionate kiss they shared before.
James is on a mission to destroy the buccaneer Black Jack Mallory and will stop at nothing, use anyone to achieve that aim. He will risk his own life to see the deed done for Mallory killed James' family.
James abducted Diana, even though he knows it will ruin her socially, because her father has a connection to Black Jack. Only, a sexy Pirate Hunter does not cower Diana. She lives with a cold husband, a husband who abhors his only child, because she is deaf. So James does not rattle this gutsy lady. Despite making handling his captive more difficult, James admires Diana's strengths and her determination to escape, and Diana does everything to make James regret he kidnapped her. Only, Diana begins to see traits in the man, that he cares - which is a lot more than the cold fish she has for a husband does - so she begins to fall in love with the Pirate Hunter, even knowing the romance is doomed, especially since James cannot let go of the need for vengeance.
Now, James has washed up on the beach of her isolated home, giving Diana another chance at teaching the man she loves to open his heart once more.
Jennifer is a strong writer, with a deft voice. She is a wizard in creating interesting characters that make you care about them. In this one, the child with her hearing problem and how Diana helps her over come that, is so wonderfully done, with such heart.
Here's to hoping Jennifer Ashley/Ashley Gardner, keeps giving us such rich Regency tales. Her love for writing is in every word.

sensual and intriguing pirate tale....

this is my first Jennifer Ashley. I'm usually disappointed with most pirate romances-most being heavy on sex scenes but not much story. I'm happy to say this book was HIGHLY sensual but had a great storyline as well.

Those who like their romances with adventuresome women, alpha males, and a hero/heroine who are older (no blushing school room miss here) then I highly recommend this book . It's on par with Amanda Quick, Johanna Lindsey or Lisa Kleypas style and scope.

Great book despite the "old school" clutch shot cover too-LOL!

Order never came;

My order never came in. When I placed this order, I read the reviews and believed my order would come in just as quick as the others. After 2 weeks, I knew something was wrong bc I have never had problems with Amazon or the sellers. I emailed textbookie many times and although the response was quick, it was not the one I wanted. I had to end up paying $60.00 for another book bc I almost failed a summer class waiting for this book that never showed up. I would not purchase from them again... only order if you are not desperately needing the item you are purchasing. You may not get it.

Better than an Enchiridion

If you are an Adventure Time fan, or have one in your life, this is going to make your day. This book came up with a lot of creative ways to make the food discussed in the land of Ooo on Adventure Time. Also included are recipes inspired by the show. You can tell the authors are meticulous fans of the show. If you've ever stayed up late watching Jake make bacon pancakes and wanted some yourself, or wondered how exactly you construct an Everything Burrito, this is for you. There are recipes that are definitely kid friendly and could be a great way to get kids to eat healthy foods they wouldn't want to eat. Who knew you could make Gunther with eggs, olives & a knife? If you never make a recipe in this book, it still is a ton of fun to read and there are lots of adorable pictures.

I've got two full shelves of cookbooks and nothing compares to this. Some of the most unusual and off the wall recipes I've ever seen. Crazy, interesting, and fun. Never thought I'd say that about a cookbook.

The perfect gift for any Adventure Time fan!

My entire family loves Adventure Time, and this is such a creative take on the show. I never would have thought of dedicating a cookbook to AT, after all, Finn and Jake scarf some pretty gross things in the show. But Eric Resnick has come up with amazingly creative and delicious takes on these foods. My son is a very picky eater, so I hope that cooking some of these recipes for him will make trying new foods more fun and appealing to him.
I also love all of the beautiful fan art present in the book. Not only do they give the artists exposure, but this book could easily fit in with your coffee table books, as well as in your kitchen.
I can't wait to start cooking. It's going to be algebraic!

Something missing ?

A friend of mine offered this book to Tenzin Namdak, actual head of Bön lineage, supposed to achieve rainbow body when he will leave. He didn't seem so much interested and said that the drawings are correct, but "something is missing. They didn't get the fruit", i.e. they won't achieve rainbow body.
Now, the question is "what" ? Maybe we have a first clue, in the fact that their approach is totally naturalist. There is only earth, nature, light... Where are the buddha fields, the revelations, the transmissions, one is supposed to get with the third vision ? Just read the life of Shardza Rinpoche and others. It's totally different.
Apparently it is possibe to get the visions (or a part of them) without getting the real meaning. Because, according to many teachings, there is no "matter" in the universe, only "beings" (what we call matter being alledgedly the "body" of beings, who we can't see because of our obscurations). But in this book, there are no beings, only matter.

Spiritually focused artists Robert and Rachel Olds culminated a lifelong Earth based spiritual path of meditative practice by going on an 8 year retreat practicing Tibetan Buddhism's and Bon's highest visionary path of Togal. Along the way, they documented with skilled, sensitive drawings documenting the unfolding progression of the four stages of Togal visions. To my knowledge, nothing of this kind has ever been presented in the public domain before.
Also distinctive in publishing these beautiful images of the Togal visions and their accompanying volume describing the actual practices that took them up to and through the path of Togal, Primordial Grace - Earth, Original Heart and The Visionary Path of Radiance, Rob and Rachel strip Togal of its here-to-fore religious and cultural baggage and restore it to its primordial, grounded in the Earth, roots. I realize this will be seen by some as a controversial description of a controversial act but surely, the Togal process of seeing the essential nature of the spontaneous presence of the primordially pure innate is antecedent to all forms of culture and all -isms.
Personally, the powerfully gentle and sensitive images in this volume deepened my faith and quickened my spirit. They led me to contact Rob and embark on this remarkable journey. In my experience, as the visions are beginning to develop, this process is increasingly engaging. Some really good chili recipes found in this cookbook

You will find a good variety of chili recipes in the 35 Chili Recipes - World's Best Chili Cookbook by the Hillbilly Housewife. The author Susanne Myers starts off her cookbook with a recipe for Kid Friendly Chili and goes on to include recipes that use meat, poultry or vegetables to create chili.

Some of the recipes you will find in her cookbook include:

Fast and Easy Chili
Gluten Free Chili
Vegetarian Chili
Low Fat Turkey Chili
Steak Chili

There is an active table of contents making navigation easy.

Great book

I really enjoyed the different recipes. Easy to make and the ingredients can be found easily. I can't wait to try some of these. I know that others will say that chili is the easiest dish to make but to find other ingredients to highlight chili is a plus. I am not a good chili maker so I look forward to learning something new.
