I originally reviewed this guide with five stars in 2009. I am much less happy about the guide now, because it has basically not improved during the last six years. Currently, I would say that the best street food advice comes from blogs (eg ieatishootipost). The key problem with the guide is that it is organised around food category. That is pretty ridiculous because the country is not that small. It would have been much better to organise based on location: "So I'm at Tanglin Halt food court, what are the recommended placed here?" Right now you need to wade through the whole list to find the good places you are close to.
I love Asian street food, but the problem in Singapore is that all food is imported. So you will not find the really tasty stuff. The kind of food that is cheap because it is sourced locally, not because it is of poor quality. Sadly, in Singapore, the price of hawker centre food hasn't followed inflation. This means that the hawkers (understandably) do everything to cut cost. This really reduces the quality of the food. So I cannot understand the people that are lyrical about Singapore street food any more. This guides fall into this trap, basically by listing far too many places. The rating system should also be updated so it takes the price of the food into account. I'm not going to go out of my way just to find a S$4 dish on the other side of the island. It might be great food given a S$4 budget, but people so constrained with money probably wouldn't buy this guide in the first place.
For tourists this guide has one useful section and that is the description of the various kinds of hawker centre food available in Singapore. If you are a foodie and want to understand more, this could be one benefit with the current book.
So not more than two stars. I sincerely hope the writer soon realises that time doesn't stand still. He needs to improve the book.

Difficult to use as a guide

Although this book is chock full of information on the food of Singapore it is not organized to be used effectively while visiting as a tourist. It is not cross referenced by specific enough location. It at least needs a cross reference by hawker center.
